It is a further fact that all Savings Iepartments in Texas State Banks can show a similar record. In addi- tion to the interest allowed the de- positor has the special protection afforded by the requirement that all funds must be invested either in bonds or first lien real estate mort- gages the loan in each case not to exceed 50 per cent of the value of the real estate. The further fact that no officer can borrow a dollar out of the Savings Department is a protection worth considering.
