Haynes That Wylic Band competed in the UIL State Marching Contests Nov. 8, coming up just a little short of the glory they had hoped for. In the field of 21 outstanding bands in the competition, TWB had set their sights on being one of the ten bands to advance to the finals, but when the preliminaries were over and the judges' scores tabulat- ed, they were in a 12th place. Despite their disappointment, band members said they were sin- cerely pleased for fellow local bands, Mesquite Poteet and Sherman, the other two bands to advance to state from the Area C competition. Poteet finished the day as state champion and Sherman ended up in third place. "At this level, there are no bad bands," said WHS Band Director Mike Lipe. "Poteet was clearly the best band there. We were pulling for them in the finals, our kids were cheering for the other groups." Although the...

OK - that said, let me shout from the rooftops that I have never wit- nessed or experienced anything like that Wylie Band in my life.
