From what may be gathered at late meetings it seems the Council is in a quandary as regards one or two things. The By-laws adopted from those in force in Dnbbo, were with commendable celerity adopted and sent to the authorities for official sanction. This stage was reached some mouths ago, and then ensued a period of incubation during trhich these Bye-laws, after being carefully sat upon, emerge in an extremely crushed condition. None of the Aldermen can recognise in the ?Bye-laws that the authorities say should now be adopted, any of those passed at a former meeting. In fact, if rumours are to be believed, the By-laws as originally passed, came in for wholesale condemnation, and tliero is so little left of them that mei te with approval that it is a -moot --juc»iionj whether the By-laws Committee should not again moet, and reframe and jfe submit a fresh set of By-laws. The bn.rthen of the authorities objections being thnt the major portion of tUe ! adopted By-laws is ultra vires, i...

Vagrant Notes. ? ^ — The recent loss of a box of sovereigns from the Alameda has led many ining j inative persons to form theories as to- ! tlie -manner In T which the gold was ex | traeted, but we, with that enterprising ' spirit which is always at the service of , our readers (no mutter at what cost to oirselves), at once proceeded to place I ourselves in communication with tho spirit or the Jate krueutod Shurlock Holmes, for llahatmas, like ourselves, have no uiffiuu.ty, ciiLcr iu annihilating space, or calling up spirits irom the vastly ethereal. Municipal Council. [Newspaper Article] — Narromine News and Trangie Advocate — 9 June 1899

Municipal Council. The adjourned meeting of the Municipal Council was held on Thurs day evening, 1st. instant. Owing to the meeting having been held on the evening we go to press, our reporter was unable to attend. However, we understand there was nothing of a very important character befoi'e the Council. The following Correspon dence was read :? — MATOB'S M.7JUTE. I beg to table the following minutes — Having received so many complaints about the accumulation of rubbish in Liermgo-street, I engaged a man to remove it at a charge of £1. the man engaged, Mr. Montgomery, will I feel sure make a good job of it, and considering the quantity of stuff to be removed the payment is very low. Aldermen will, I trust, support my action in this matter, as this is the heap of rubbish near the Public School ?which, was rapidly being convertep idto a public rubbish tip. It will now be necessary for residents to find some other and more remote tip for the deposit of refuse and rubbish generally. It...
