The Federal Fight. [Newspaper Article] — Toora and Welshpool Ensign and South Gippsland Observer — 19 June 1914

The Federal Fight. "A clear fire, a clean hearth, and the rigour of the game." " This," says Charles Lamb in his famous essay, " was the celebrated wish of old Sarah Battle who, next to her devotions, loved a good game at whist." In the same spirit Mr Cook, speaking in the House of Representatives on Wednesday, said:—" While tins fight is going on I don't want a title of ad vantage to my side. I want a straight, Square, standup fight, i Any step that will help to that! end I shall be only too delighted ' to take." The words used by the Prime Minister amply express the! feeling of every honest citizen, be he Liberal or Laborite'. It is a pity therefore that, on Wednesday, some members of the Opposition saw fit to say very wild, very! sweeping things, about an alleged conspiracy to disfranchise the ( nomadic worker. The assertions (f as to the doings of Liberal - Organisers unnamed were almost, though not quite, as startling as • the absence of definite facts to support them. And in t...

Woorarra East [FROM OUR CORRESONDENT.] The Woorarra bachelors hold their annual ball on Friday evening last.   The night was perfect and the dance was considered by many to be the best since the opening of the ball. Great credit is due to the hon. secretaries— Messrs McDowell and Sperher—and their energetic committee, for the way   in which everything was carried out. About 50 couples danced to the music of Messrs Dickenson and Dow, whilst Mr R. Hodgkiss carried out the duties of M.C. Mr Jas.
