THE BANQUET. [Newspaper Article] — Nagambie Times — 21 August 1914

THE BANQUET. At six o'clock a banquet was tendered. to Mr Ostrom at the Nagambie Hotel. The function was arranged by the local branch of the A.N.A. as an official wel come to the representative of the Board, and was a decided success. The spread prepared by Mrs M'Donald was the subject of most favorable comment, and the high quality and variety of the menu was a bargain at the price of ad mission, Many interesting toastB were honored, and the speeches made were full of interest, par ticularly that of Mr Ostrom, whose oration was a very fine one, and was enthusiastically applauded. The President of the Nagambie branch, Mr H. O'Neill, presided. Messrs E. \V. Hill, A. N. Hopkins, J. Furlong, E. G. Hill, J. A. Sullivan, Bert. Baxter, G. Cowan, and Cre Derum and Wilson, sup ported the different toastB, further reference to which will be made next week.

Tlio proposal to celebrate Wattl Day in Nagambio on moro oxten sivo lines than has* probably been attempted by many Victorian country towns resulted in what we ' are ploased to describe as an un qualified success. This was mainly duo to tho offorts of the local branch of the A.N.A., and Mr B. C. Hill in particular, as this pro gressive young Australian native put forward the proposal for the Wattle Day celebrations which re- I suited so successfully. . With the j co-operation of the members of the branch, from tho Presidont (Mr H. O'Neill) downwards the sug gestions made by Mr Hill were adopted, and with the assistance of a committee comprising Messrs A. C. Lester, W. It. Bourse, H.! O'Neill and Mr E. C. Hill, a pro-! grammo was drawn up which at I once commended itself to the people | of Nagambie, who entered into tho j spirit of the celebrations in a most j commendable manner, and what promises and should become -one of'...
