After sundown recently, one prominent resident- of Riversdale-road could-be seen exercis ing a fine specimen of William, Goat in a small box-cart, whliich bears the brand, " The Hawthorn Cup, Satur day, 3rd October,". on its sides. Near the Victoria-road reserve a fine up standing black goat is being put through its paces; whilst one more en terprising owner has applied for per mission to use the Sports Grounds for training. MALAY "AS SHE IS SPOKE." A young missionary was burning with commendable zeal to introduce Chris tian ideals into Jolo Archipelago. He was stationed in Parang, and with con siderable graciousness he began to make friends among the people, and set him self to learning the spoken language, which is aln offshoot from the Arabian, with a Malayan admixture When he had applied himself for nearly two years he felt that he was ready to proclaim a.message in their native tongue, and through a Nakip, a local officer, who understood a litt-le English, announcement was made of the. meetinlg to be held.
