LOMBROSO AND TOLSTOI. [Newspaper Article] — Daily Herald — 12 March 1910

LOMBROSO A3JD TOLSTOI. After a battle of wits testing for many years, Count Leo Tolstoi finally seems to have brought the Russian Government to the point where it is in terror of his power. The Government has never quite approved of Tolstoi. In fact, he has been looked upon as a dangerous fauatic. It is related that when Cesare Lombroso went to Russia a few years ago he an nounced his intention , of calling on Tol stoi. Immediately after he arrived in, Russia he received a summons from the Czar to pay a visit. He sent back word' that he could not accept, as he had an j engagement with Tolstoi. j The Czar was very much perturbed.! [ He sent the Chief of Police to Lombroso i to remonstrate and explain that a visit to I Tolstoi would be taken as an insult to the I Czar. "Can't help it," said Lombroso, "I must go to Bee Toistoi." "Iiul. he is a dangerous lunatic," said the Chief of Police. "All the more reason why I should go," declared Lombroso, "as I am an alienist.." And Lombroso sai...

The wri ter has personally known Mr. Bertels meier for a Long lime, and can say that to no more deserving, breeder could the coveted honor come. On visiting Mr. Bertelsmeier'e yards this week I -was not surprised to find a fine looking lot of uti lity pullets being got in form for the com ing Eoseworthy and other competitions, and in my opinion the birds that get home ip front of these pens will have to put up a very big score. Sir. Bertelsmeier was unfortunate in getting a lot oi bis most valuable pullets killed by dogs .a short time ago. Many , of these birds he had intended to send to various intejT' State laying competitions, and he ha...
