PSU Researches Student Expenses Five-hundred and three undergraduate students at Penn State who were surveyed by Student Affairs Research for annual educational expenses reported that dormitory and fraternity students can expect to spend nearly the same, but University Park off-campus students "can expect to pay more on the average for room and board." All campuses of the University charge the same for room and board - $1,065 - while fraternities reported spending $1,068. Offcampus students reported spending substantially more annually on room and board than did either on-campus students or fraternity members. Student Affairs Research feels that this comparison may not be as reliable because of a poor response from students living offcampusaccording to Ralph Locklin, associate director. Students living off-campus in private homes or apartments at the Commonwealth Campuses reported an average room and board cost of $1,116, depending on the type of residence and the amount spe...

Candidates Present S.G.A. Views Due to an oversight on the part of the Behrend Collegian, the names and speeches of two SGA candidates were ommitted in the last issue. Tim Callion (3, Bus, Erie ) is running for the position of representative on the SGA. He is very much concerned with the rift between the commuter and the dormitory students and would like to see something done about it next year. He would also like to push toward a more active campus both socially and educationally. Ramona Cwon, (3,'LA, Coraopolis ) stated that, "if chosen for Student Government representative I plan to be impartial in my views and open-minded, taking in all sides of an issue. I also plan to spend all the time needed to revise the things we think are bad and progress the things we know are good." We would also like to acknowledge the fact that Mike Chiricuzio is opposing Ken Mushrush for the second vice presidency.

University Council at PSU Discussed Academic Plan The University Council Thursday, May 18, approved, in principal, recommendations on the University calendar and continued discussion of the University academic plan. Dr. Donald R. Olsen, chairman of the sub-committee on calendar, gave an interim report to the Council and was authorized to send the report with editorial changes to President Oswald. In its discussions, the Council has considered means of adjusting the calendar to be more convenient to the "natural holidays" that students and their families live by. Other factors discussed include an earlier start for the Fall Term and earlier completion of the Spring Term, with a consequent improvement in flexibility of the Summer Term and in orientation and advising opportunities. Meeting with the Council for its consideration of the academic plan were Dr. Theodore R. Vallance, chairman of the drafting committee of the academic policy plan, and Dr. G. Letters to the Editor ...

Behrend S.G.A Hoc 1+ Pnu/or_? The role of the Student Government Association has beer a long debated point on many college campuses, Behrenc not to be excluded. It may seem wiseon the eve of the spring elections, to pondei_^-iust what the role of S.G.A. is has it fulfilled it, and is its ti&e appropriate. As the name "government" suggests, our S.G.A. is reckoned to be a true governing body that represents the students of the campus in all facets of campus life. It is supposed to be able to make decisions and make laws that will stick with the administration. In reality, nothing could be further from the truth. In reality, Behrend's student government has only rarely been able to make decisions without consultation with that administration. At the very best, S.G.A. can only act as a sounding board for the wishes of the studentscollecting opinions and formulating recommendations to be passed on to the administration. Nor is the situation any different at University Park ...

_froy ri _*T _he _f/tst'Me ^_ \ _^_OKlA)6 _^ Can't figure out all the hassle about the "Outdoor Music Festival" last weekend. I know that it was a rock concert, and you know that it was a rock concert. Who are they trying to fool? Seems strange that the yearbook got a cartoon AND three pages of their very own, while the newspaper got just a cartoon and everyone else got nothing. And they wanted free advertising from the paper. Everyone should go out and cast their token vote in the S.G.A. elections this week, just to make it official. Sure is quiet this spring without Security to upset everyone. Don't have much of anything to talk about now. Is the darkroom for the student organizations or is it for the faculty? For those who are trying to figure what all this is about, this little column is merely a resurrected Bill's Toes from last year. Just ask any sophomore or faculty member, and they will fill you in.
