Col; Tate, of the Lycoming Standard, ought to be old enough not to ask top many questions. Not long ago he sent papers to five men at Roaring Branch, which papers were returned with the request that -they should not be lent any longer, adding that there were enough of brass and copper in that region without importing more. President Johnson is again oh the ra ( mpage. - .This time he went to Boston to witness the ceremony of laying the corner-stone of the' Masonic Tern? pie to be erected in that city. When he visited North Carolina a few weeks ago he gave promise of growing wisdom in his golden silence. We, in common with all who take no pleasure in human folly, rejoiced at his silence. But fox some reason, this trip to Boston has unsealed his indiscreet lips once more.— True, he does not apeak of his relations with political affairs, but just as offensively speaks as none but drunken men can speak. However, the President finds a good background in his ?. M. General, Randall, whose speeches savor too much of that detestable, lackeyism which one hears from .bis bootblack, to be reported. Whetrtt-Gabinet officer speaks of himself as but the shadow of the President, it is high time that the people demand the dismissal of the shadow. The substance is enough for one nation in all conscience. Let us hop...

The promulgation off the nullifying opinion of Mr. Stanbery lias .caused the resignation of Gen. Sickles, military commander of the Carolina Department, Gen. Sheridan does not take kindly to the Attorney General's construction of the law of reconstruction, and some of the municipal officers in Texas, taking heart of the loose policy and looser logic of the President and his advisers; have already raised the standard of revolt,— The signs are not auspicious. There is danger of a, revjjval of the half-smothered mob-spirit, of the South, arid an outbreak would not surprise anybody. We hope that our forebodings inay prove incorrect.
