'ANDSOME ORSEMEN . [Newspaper Article] — Chicago Livestock World — 27 January 1902

ANDSOME ORSEMEN . Interesting Trio of Familiar Figures on . the Chicago Horse Market . THE gentlemen pictured here today are all horsemen and are so long connected with the Chicago horse market that the pictures are hardly necessary and since their llkesses are pictured in every horsemen s mind we offer HAIHIT GILL AND HIS TAXDEM no excuse for printing them other than to give our patrons something more substantial than the mind s hazy photograph . Tho flrst one is Harry Gill . But you all know him . The picture is not intended as a work of art—it wasn t copied from any of the old masters , It simply pictures the realization of one of Harrys dreams . He is particularly partial to a long coupled horse and the reason for his preference is made obvious here . The Idea presented by the illustration will undoubtedly set all the renowned breeders to thinking . The horse in the picture looks like a Dachshunt grade and his canine breeding is perhaps a trifle too pronounced to suit Harry s cr...

It Is a Necessity JVofee » . [Newspaper Article] — Chicago Livestock World — 27 January 1902

It Is a Necessity JVofee » . IJjIOWADAYS the young man without | £ | a technical education has little chance of success . Not lonsr since in a local technical school the son of a veteran master brewer • was detected by a visitor . Making inquiries he learned that the youth was fitting himself to follow the calling so successfully pursued by his father . But your father never enjoyed the advantages of a technical education , and you cannot hope to be a more pronounced success than he has been , protested the visitor . Probably not . replied the student , but father made beer out of tlie real stuff , malt and hops and such . I am learning how to make it out of chemicals . Dad ¦ was a good brew-master , but we ve got to keep in the front rank to insure success . Every youth should have the advantage of a technical education and none need it more than they who intend to remain on the farm . The Live Stock World is more liberally quoted than any other paper devoted to this variety of jou...

* / l 'Reasonable THeq-uest . [Newspaper Article] — Chicago Livestock World — 27 January 1902

* / l Reasonable THeq-uest . HHE National Live Stock Association makes one request to the Federal authorities that savors of reason . It asks that a limited number of cattle be allowed to graze on the forest reserves that have heen laid off in the western states : ^ As Secretary Martin points out , these reservations have been laid off on petitions proposed by people who knew nothing whatever about the character of the country they embrace , and contain much excellent grazing land now going to waste . In view of the overcrowded condition of the ranges this seems poor policy . All the Association requests is that a limited number of cattle be allowed on these reservations , thus insuring protection of the timber , and the Federal authorities will serve no useful purpose by refusing to grant it . Fort Worth is getting ready for the annual cattle raisers convention , and it is going to be a good old time of the most fervent kind .

The 7 rbana Contention . [Newspaper Article] — Chicago Livestock World — 27 January 1902

The \ 7 rbana Contention . BCONSIDERABLE space was devoted by the Live Stock World last week to the corn side of the midwinter convention of Illinois stockmen at Urbana . Today our correspondent deals extensively • with the live stock features of the gathering , detailing Mr . J . II . Skinner s instruction on sheep and swine , all of which is replete with interest . Tomorrow details of the draft horse session will he given . To secure this matter the Live Stock World has gone to the expense of sending a member of its staff to Urbana , but considers the importance of the event and the information disseminated there fully justifies tlie effort . Those unable to attend will find our reports profitable reading . Dont permit yourself to hug the delusion that spring is anywhere near at hand .
