The Farmers'Co-operative Harvesting Machine Co . [Newspaper Article] — Ohio Farmer — 2 March 1907

The FarmersCo-operative Harvesting Machine Co . WHAT OUR READERS THINK . We are glad to publish a few of the hundreds of letters which we are receiving from our readers , commenting on the report of our investigation of the Farmers Co-operative Harvesting Machine Co . Many of these letters are from large stockholders and they earnestly commend our course . We are sorry that any of our readers must suffer financial loss from investments already made in the concern and it was to prevent further loss that our warning was flrst published . We are now desirous of having our report reach as many farmers and prospective purchasers of stock as possible . In our issue of Feb . 1 C we give a condensed summary of the depositions taken in the case and we • will gladly send copies of this number to any one desiring them . If you have friends or neighbors whom you know to be interested and who are not readers of The Ohio Farmer , send us their names and copies of this report will be sent to ttiem...

THESE WINTER DAYS . [Newspaper Article] — Ohio Farmer — 2 March 1907

THESE WINTER DAYS . As one goes about these winter days , he Is impressed with the very large amount of corn stover that remains bleaching and rotting in the field , and when he returns home and finds conditions much the same he is still further impressed . And it is a fact that in many instances not alone the stover but the corn , too , is in the field . By this plight we are reminded that with all our boasted agriculture most of us have yet at least one thing to learn , and that is to better care for our greatest crop . The shredder and the silo have invaded some communities helping to solve the problem , but taken as a whole the amount thus cared for can scarcely be missed from the fields . We should do something to avoid this waste . It is up to us . We know how to proceed , so let us not delay another season . We can get along better without such waste . And one sees many farmers laboriously hauling this damaged feed from the fields amid snow , rain , and mud , and feeding the ...

PROFITS OF A SMALL , FARM . [Newspaper Article] — Ohio Farmer — 2 March 1907

PROFITS OF A SMALL , FARM . NO NEED TO ISrY MORE . My farm contains 23 acres of land , two of which are in a timbered swamp . A surface-water creek crosses one corner , and the house and barn with yards occupy enough so that there are not over 20 acres under actual cultivation . In 1905 the farm « produced 270 bushels of potatoes , 120 bushels of oats , 90 bushels of corn , five tons of hay and corn fodder , besides pasturing two cows and one horse . Cash receipts were as follows : Potatoes , $ 100 . 95 ; eggs from 70 hens . $ 90 . 26 ; butter and veals , $ 50 . 34 ; poultry , $ 10 . 21 . Total , $ 251 . 76 . Besides , there was pork , butter , cream , milk , and eggs for use of a family of four . There were also garden vegetables , strawberries , plums , pears , apples and raspberries , all in liberal quantity . Shall I buy more land ? No , I am not going to grow weary in well-doing , but shall not be satisfied without betterlioing . The way to get more land is to turn one acre of ...

I THE DAIRY I [Newspaper Article] — Ohio Farmer — 2 March 1907

I THE DAIRY I A NEW YORK DAIRY INSTITUTE . Delaware Co ., N . Y ., is well known as one of the foremost dairy sections in . the world . Here live such wellknown farmers as John McDonald , J . Q . Barlow , Walter A . Terry , etc ., who are among the most intelligent and successful dairy farmers in the county . When these men join with the best state institute instructors , a meeting that is nearly as interesting and valuable as a state dairymans convention is the result . This meeting was held under the direction of Mr . F . E . Dawley and conducted by H . E . Cook of Denmark , N . Y . Arthur White , one of Northfield s best citizens and most successful farmers , opened the meeting with a short address . He said : - We recognize the value of right theories , but as farmers we are well aware that theory must be linked with hard work . The two are inseparable . Farm conditions are improving and the tide is turning in the direction of agriculture , and I believe land values will be enha...
