The department of the Interior has just modified the new home stead law in a most important par ticular. By order just issued by the general land office and signed by S. V. Proudfit, assistant com missioner, the matter of time of cultivation of homesteads is modi fled so that it is practically ruled that instead of a homesteader having to cultivate so much each year, his final proof will be allowed on his showing that his total culti vation shows the required average. Bozeman, Dec. 16.-Angered by too much badgering at the hands' of Fred Carlson, a bartender, A. Miyao, a Japanese, who was in charge of the dining room of the Milwaukee hotel at Three Forks, shot his tormentor, seriously wounding him, the bullet passing through the cheek and neck. The Japanese was arrested and brought to Bozeman, though the complaint will not be filed until the wounded man's condition is ascertained. He is now in a dangerous condi tion. Presbyterian Services Church services at the Presby terian church will be conducted Sunday, Dec. 22nd at the usual hours of 11 a. m. and 7:45 p. m. Sunday School at 10 a. m.
