From Mono.—We had a conversation on Thursday evening last, with a gentleman just returned from Mono, who left on the 10th of May last, and returned by the southern route. He gives very discouraging accounts —says that he prospected there for six weeks faithfully, and did not find diggings that would pay more than two dollars j»er day. The weather was very cold—snow fell to the depth of four inches the night hefore he left—wind Mowing continually and very clod. They informed him that they would not turn the water into the ditch hefore the 15th of June, and that there would be hut little mining done before the Ist of July. Flour could l.c bought there when he left for $8 ]:cr hundred pounds. Meat was not so plenty as flour, and commanded better prices. Whiskey ready sale at high prices. . This gentleman came the old Indian trail, and did not sec all the teams from Visalia— those that he did see were getting along tolerably well considering the Jieavy road along Owens river. OBITUARY. [Newspaper Article] — Visalia Weekly Delta — 2 June 1860

OBITUARY. Amongst the recent victims of the unfortunate ; battle at Pyramid Lake, was Henry Meredith. It is useless to singpeans to his praise, all who knew him, loved him. His brilliant genius adorned the profession of which he was a useful and honorable member. Free from guile, and any sordid sentiment! he was universally respected by the bitterest of his political opp ments. Self sacrificing; I he, who at the zenith of hi* fame, the Ultima Tku- ! Ir of his ambition, yielded his own prospects of political advancement, in order to elevate a friend: I as he lived, so he died, and when gallantly figl ting on the battle field, and wounded nigh unto death, 'an opportunity of retreat was offered him, rather j than peril the safety of another, with the magna- | nimity which characterised him through life; he reI fused the proffered offering, and died fighting amongst his ISVOg ■■ foes, a soldier of und Hinted courage —a gentleman of pure heart—unselfish, unintimidated, and worthy of reno...
