NO. 14 THE BASTROP COUNTY TIMES. SMITHVILLE. TEXAS ->8957 THURSDAY. APRIL 1. 1976 Wilson Elated Over Ruling ' LAGRANGE - State Rep. John Wilson called Thursday, March 25, "one of the biggest days of my life." Wilson was referring to Thursday's action by the Texas Railroad Commision halting LoVaca Gathering Companies gas "banking" arrangements and Gov. Dolph Briscoe's stand calling for a special legislative ses- sion and rapping the Commission for allowing 100 % "pass-through". Wilson stated that Thurs- day's events will prove significant to all Texas con- sumers, perhaps more significant than most realize. Wilson said he was pleased at this action being taken after his concerted efforts to call attention to the Railroad Commission's role in the Centex Utility pro- blem. APRIL 1. 1976 )iir^ mions Better Late Than Never Finally, it seems someone has done something to slow down the ever-mounting cost of natural gas in the state of Texas. I'm speaking, of course, of the Texas Railroad Commission's order to LoVaca Gathering Co. to end all gas "banking" arrangements, an order that even LoVaca officials estimate will cause an immediate decrease of 6 to 10 cents^per Mcf in the rates paid by LoVaca customers. It seems a long-overdue move by the Commission, however. / .id my guess is that the issuance of the order stems more from pressure brought to bear by consumers, by candidates for the legislature and for the Commission, and by power cooperatives than from concern for the poor downtrodden payers of electric bills. The Railroad Commission of late has seemed to be oblivious to the provisions of the recently-passed Utility Regulatory Act which places a great measure of the respon- sibility ...
