SEPTEMBER 6, 1878 The editor of the Austin Gazette says he has known frosts in the Mis- sissippi Valley afc early as the 15th ot October, but as a general thing that section is not visited by frost be- fore the 20th, and from that date to the first of November. The Philadelphia Record states that for the fust time in many years the local drug manufacturers are re- porting a scarcity of quinine, and that the extensive prevalence of yel- low fever in the south has made alarming inroads in the stocks on hand. It is suggested that nickle collec- tions be made in every town and city in the United States for the yellow fever sufferers. The plan is to put np boxes in hotels and other con- spicuous places for the reception of such donations.
