Parent worried child will m get AIDS in preschool £ J <^y ^ By Willard Abraham, Ph.D. Copley News Service Q. As a parent of a preschooler I am concerned about AIDS relat- ed to my child. I have no reason to believe that she can pick it up (or has it) or that she will be infected from our family, but one worry is on my mind on this subject. Is there any chance that her preschool setting can possibly be a source for AIDS? What do you suggest I do about this possibility? I imagine I'm not the only par- ent for whom your answers can be important. A. I learned a long time ago that when any problem or potential one concerns a parent, that indi- vidual has plenty of company With all the publicity about AIDS it seems inevitable that many par- ents have added it to the list of .Age 55 or Older and Need Help Finding A Job? Page 5 . SPORTS Wylie Defeats Mabank In Bi-District Baseball BY CHRISTI NALL Wylie's Pirates defeated the Mabank Panthers, 10-4, Tuesday in Mesquite to advance to next week's AAA regional baseball playoffs against the winner of the Van-Gilmer bi-district playoff. The Pirates spotted Mabank a 1-0 lead with an unearned run in the top of the first inning, but quickly got it back in the bottom half of the stanza when Jason Brown scampered home on a wild pitch. And moments later John Minick scored, giving Wylie a 2-1 lead. Three more Wylie runs in the third inning put the game out of reach. Curtis Herrera doubled to knock in Minick, and then came around to score also. Steve McCormick scored the third run of the inning on an infield error. The Pirates made it 9-2 in the fourth inning on a bases-loaded walk and hits by Mark Watkins and Wade Womack. When Mabank scored a run in the top of the fifth, Coach Sam Rockwall-Royse City Highway Being Upgraded The Texas State Department of Highways a...

Page 7 # Why is faith so important? Doesn't everyone believe in God?" No, everyone does not believe in God. While doing missionary work in India, I saw for myself that millions of people in that large na- tion believe in worshiping cows, snakes, rivers, trees, rocks, etc. Why? The great reason is that they had not known the gospel of Christ. There are still many atheists in the U.S. Perhaps the most fam- ous is Madalyn Murray O'Hair. CCCC Enrollment Shows Increase Over Last Year Although official registration for the summer semester at Collin County Community College won't begin until May 31, results of early registration show a 144 per- cent increase in enrollment for Summer I and III over this time last year. Early registration took (see the first week of May. A report distributed at the May 10 board of trustees meeting shows that 965 students have al- ready registered for Summer I and III, compared with 395 at this time last year. A 116 percent in- crease in enrollment is shown for the Summer II term. Summer I runs June 6 through July 7; Summer II, July 11 through Aug. 11; and Summer III, June 6 through Aug. 10. Vice President of Student De- velopment Deborah Floyd said she believes the increased num- bers are indicative of a significant increase in reverse transfer stu- dents, that is, students enrolled in four-year institutions who plan to transfer to CCCC for the summer. is. Page 14 Feature Section Children need the Tooth Fairy By Willard Abraham, Ph.D. Copley News Service Q. Because this is a real, lough world in which we live, I feel we should start out by being accurate and factual with our young chil- dren. My husband doesn't, so that is the problem. He is really a softie with all the Tooth Fairy, Santa Claus, and make-believe friends our children have created. So tell me, briefly, which side are you on? A. His, because childhood lasts such a short time and children often learn about the tough as- pects of society when they are ma- ture enough to cope with them. Q. It never bothered me until recently that our son seemed to be such a loner, but now that he is approaching adolescence I wonder if I should be doing something about this apparent trait. It isn't that he appears to be lonely (he doesn't) or that he can't make friends (he can), but I just hope that in his later life he won't regret the kind of solitude he seems to be building around him...

"In order to live I must, in every way possible, look on this as an uncomfortable situa- tion and not as a disability, If I focus on arthritis as a disability I'd be thinking all the time about what I couldn't do, and I would, therefore, not be able to do it If I focus on what I want to do, I then just learn to live and overcome the effects of arthritis." Mainly for Seniors Two-thirds of those afflicted with arthritis in the United States are women — 23 million of them — so Reynolds developed a video- tape titled "Do It Debbie's Way," showing exercises that can be done for fitness, muscular strengthening and cardiovascular gain. Recently, she produced and starred in a second exercise video for both husband and wife, "Cou- ples Do It Debbie's Way."
