It is a further fact that all Savings Departments in Texas State Banks can show a similar record. In addi- tion to the interest allowed the de- positor has the special protection afforded by the requirement that all funds must be jnvested either in bonds or first lien real estate mort- gages the loan in each case Ijiot to exceed 50 per cent of the value' of the real estate. The further fact that no officer can borrow a dollar out of the Savings Department is a protection worth considering.
