MOTORS AND MOTORING FAULTY STARTING [Newspaper Article] — The Canberra Times — 7 October 1926

MOTORS AND MOTORING FAULTY STARTING Each motor is a "law unto itself" to a degree, but the* fault likely to ari.se m | one is common to all. Failure *& start with «reasonable promptness» must I be one of two' faults,, failure of igni' tion pr. failure of fuel supply; or an too lean a mixture .of petrol, vapour, and air. The ignition can be allright, but the carburettor may be temporarily disarranged. In the event of,an engine stop, or failure to statt, just maku cer- tain that petrol is reaching the cat'bu rettor without hindrance. This can be done by lifting the float needle ort its seat, and if the carburettor floods, the flow from the tank is ample, then look for ignition faults. With a ne« car, the make and break of the magneto may be sticking, due to expansion by the "weather conditions; have someone turn the engine over by the ^tarling handle," and. s>eo if the -rocker aim" opens and closes freely.
