ANOTHER USEFUL DAM. [Newspaper Article] — Country Life Stock and Station Journal — 28 March 1924

ANOTHER USEFUL DAM. A commencement is being made with the diversion weir in the Murrumbid gee, 12 miles from Narrandera. Tlie works will take about two years, and local stone is to be used for the weir. On the Yanco Creek a 'regulator' will be constructed about 200 yards below the bridge. This may seem a conservative view to take ; but till we increase our popu lation by opening up our coastal coun try...

WOOL MARKET REPORTS VIEWS OF WOOL SELLING BROKERS [Newspaper Article] — Country Life Stock and Station Journal — 28 March 1924

10OL: MARKET S?EP®ITS ? ? ? ? * ? VIEWS OF WOOL SELLING BROKERS Matters have been very quiet in the Sydney wool market this week, but selling brokers have been busy preparing their clear ing-up catalogues to be offered nest week. Quantities are a little more iu volume 'than was anticipated and a number of good wools will be included. Brisbane sales have passed off suc cessfully during the week, and s strung market is looked forward to in Sydney next week. The reports ol the various wool selling brokers which we publish hereunder will be found to con tain much of interest to woolgrowers. Winchccmbo, Carson, Ltd. The dominance of raw wool in dic tating prices is further evidenced by recent experiences. Two weeks ago top-making wools were a shade easier in Australia. That development was quickly seized upon as an opportunity to depress values for tops in Brad ford. Offers for tops 64' s, previously at 70d, to 71d per lb., were reduced to 69d. But before that reduction could take effect...

FASHIONS ROUND [Newspaper Article] — Country Life Stock and Station Journal — 28 March 1924

FASHIONS ROUND By 'Cayenne' The new woollen suits are a revela tion! It is impossible to imagine any gamnents more charming, comfy, and eminently practical than these knitted frocks. They are designed in every pos sible combination of the all-prevailing brown tones, anil; embrace the widest diversity of style. The one-piece gown coats and skirts, .junipers, anything 'My Lady' pleases, is here for her selection ; the only trouble is the diffi culty of choosing when till are so de sirable. The touch of autumnal brown is seen on nearly everything we wear now-ti-days ! But that does not 'spell monotony by any means. There are so many shades, from the delicate bis cuit aud pale beige tones, 'pale ale.'' mushroom, and cigar, to the deeper russet and tetc-de-nigre. The blue and green tweeds are striped or checked with brown : the delightful little turban like plumage hats show the decorative feathers of the pheasant, ill fact, there seems no escaping from the seasonable colour: It is rarel...

WHOEVER first conceived the idea of the Country Women's Association, Mrs. Hugh Munro, its first president, has been the vital spark of its development ior the 2.'l months of its young life, and has put in an amount of personal vvorlc in the laying' of its foundation stones that for long seemed very heart-breaking and disappointing, but which now has come back to her in the shape 'of an association with (53 branches and a membership running into the fourth thousand, and one which ts still growing at a rate that bids fair to constitute a record for the Commonwealth as far as women's associations are concerned at least.
