Cattle Steairng Case. IIn the Criminal Court, Melbourne, on   Tuesday, 16th inst, before Mr Justice Harland, and a jury, two young men, named   James and Robert Ellis,.were placed on trial charged with having driven away 40 head of cattle belonging to Richard Wisdom Wightman, of Thornton, near A!exandra, farmer. The prosecution was conducted by Mr Finlayson, K.C. ; Mr Maxwell appeared for the accused, who pleaded not guilty.   Charles Edward Wightman, farmer, of' Thornton, stated that he lived with his father, and looked after his cattle. On February 6 he went to the paddocks, and, found that there were 40 cattle missing. On February 13 he was sent for by the police at Lilydale, and saw 31 of the missing cattle. Among the 31 was one black steer. On Monday January 13, before the cattle disappeared, he saw the two accused about two miles from the paddocks from which the cattle were stolen.
