THE REPUBLICAN. 1. MATTINGLY, Editor. PLYÄOVTII, IND., Thursday, July 25, 1861 LATEST JfEWS. The Chicago Tribune of yesterday, snms up the latest news as follows : It appears now that Centcrvillo ami Fairfax arc still occupied by our troops, and tht the enemy hare not ventured cross Bull's Run. Under all the circumstances, this news is about as startling as the intelligence of our fatal defeat. It is reported by way of Winchester that the rebel Genend Johnston was killed in : the battle. Doubtful. The rebel estimate ot their own loss in killed and wonnded is 3,000. On onr aide the number is red iced to 1,000 by the most careful reckoning. Col. Bnrnside's Rhode Island batter? is saved, and six other guns have been secured by Col. Einstein of the Pennsylvania 27th, who went back to the field of battle. The gallant Col. Wilcox of the Michigan 1st is a prisoner and only slightly wounded. The New York Herald correspondent alleges that the rout was the result of a stampede among the teams...

Renator Lane of this Slat made a brief speech on Wednesday, the 10th, on the inereaae of the regular army, in which he took occasion to express his views on the war with an energy and directness thet tirred the Senate like a trumpet. "No compromise with armed traitors" is the sum of his eloquent speech, and it is a fitting sonl for the body he gave it: Mr. Laste, of Indiana Mr. President, being a member of the Committee on Military Affairs, and having voted to report this joint resolution, the Senate will pardon me- a moment for giving my reason for that vote, and for the rota which I shall give in this body. The proclamation of the President of the United States for the organization of eieren additional regiments to the regnlar army contemplates a permanent addition to the regular army.
