With the death of Serjeant Spinks, Q. vy.» the Ancient Order of the Coif ceases so *ar as the bar is concerned, indeed, of the members of Serjeants' inn two only now remain, the master of the rails and Lord Field and as a Serjeant ceased to retain any of the privileges of Jus position when raised to the bench, it pe said that the Order of the Coif (the judges who have been Serjeants wear a little black patch on the top of their wigs) is now extinct. Serjeant Spinks, who was chosen a Serjeant in 1802, when he had reached his forty sixth year, was Conservative member for Oldham from 1874 to 1880.
