EDITOR LKIIIQIITON. PA.: SATURDAY, JULY 0, 1878. A final dividend of a farthing in the pound has been declared in the case, of tho London bankers Stralian, Paul & Bates, whoso fraudulent falluro in 1855 made such a sensation. We have received from L. F. Farmer, general passenger agent of the Pcnna. K.R., a ncatlittlo hand-book handsomely illustrat i ing the attraction gf Capo May as a sea-side resort. If you think of going there, send for a copy of the book by nil means. An oil train on tho New York Central Itailroad, about ten miles from Albany, was thrown from the track Saturday night and completely wrecked. A rail had been re moved and robbery was probably tho object of the scoundrels who committed tho deed. Tho trial of Benjamin Hunter for tho murder of John M. Armstrong, in Camdenj X. J., resulted Wednesday evening in a vcr dictof murder in tho first degree. The jury were out but ashorttimc. Prisoner's counsel intend to tako the case to the Court of Errors. On Sunday last w...

II. V. MOn.TMM.Ert, editor t.EUlOIITOX, PA.t SATURDAY, JULY 20, 1ST8. Fifty cases of eunstrolte and tTonty deaths were reported in St. Louis Sunday. Some of the deaths resulted from sunstrokes on Friday and Saturday. The Cincinnati Commercial publishes crop reports from a number of places in Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky, showing not only a greater acreage but a larger average product r acre than in any former year. The Wilmington (Del.) Commercial re commends tho adoption of some horrible, unimagined puuislimeut fur wife murder, in order to check tho frequency of such crimes. It would even revivo the brutal custom of burying suicides at the crossroads with a stake driven through tho heart. It is stated that, instead of canvassing the departments for funds lo bo used in tho approaching elections, the Secretary of the llepublican Congressional Committee has caused a circular to be distributed among the clerks and clhcr employees, informing them that an "arrangement has been made with th...

Not an Enormously Kit h Country. Dr. Redficld In n letter to tbe Cincinnati Commercial says: It is a mistake, to suppose, as many Congressman do, that this is a great country, enormously wealthy and can stand most anything. It is great iu territor ial extent, but It is not wealthy. Squeczo tho wind out of it, and there is less real wealth remaining than we have supposed. The ridiculous census figures of 1870 are time and again paraded In Congress as an evidence of our " inexhaustible, wealth," ( aud that wc can stand largo appropriations and expensivo government. As a nmttcrof fact, these figures represent half wealth and half wind. They were taken at the height of the inflation peiiod, when we were sail ing to glory iu balloons so far above a. sub stantial basis that our financial neck is about to bieak before wo get back.
