-,r f- OVER THE CAPITAL CITY. Complete Recital of the Daily Doings Com piled From Various Sources. Happenings Over the City and News From the Country Roundabout. A Lunatic Siys lie Did It. A man Is now in the Portland jail who claims to have done the mysterious shooting hy which Frank Avery was seriously wounded near Gcrvals Tuesday night. The poor fellow seems nearly crazy and made a despcrato and nearly suc ceasful attempt at suicide directly after his reaching the jail last night. Last evening a federal marshal showed up at the Portland jail with Harvey Curl, whom ho had brought down from Salem on a federal war rant, with another suspicious look ing character, for whom he had no warrant. At the door of the jail this last ono turned and fled but was recaptured. He stated that he had done the shooting near Gcrvals, and that ho was obliged to, as the men were trying to kill him. She Had Swallowed a Tin. For four or five years Mrs. Sol. Catterlin of this city has been trou bled with a severe cough and accom panying pains in her right lung. A few days ago she was quite ill from the cough and the pains grow more severe. Thursday morning she was considerably better but the pain in her lungs continued, and in a se vere lit of coughing, in which she be came nearly strangled, she dislodged and spit out a corroded pin, accom panied by a mass of corruption, The pin, a brass on, was nearly half worn away and very rusty. Mrs. Catterlin now feels much better und Is recovering, rfho has no remem brance of over having swallowed a pin, although sheoltcu carried them in her mouth. Bho thinks she must have gone to sleep some time, years ago, with a pin in her mouth and swallowed it while sleep...
