A wealthy silk manufacturer in Staffordshire, England, has been sent to prison for refusing to maintain his wife and children. The farm' known as Lammermoor, in Essex County, Va.t which before the war sold for $10,000, was sold last month for $850. David Clammek of Indianapolis, Mahaska County, Iowa, recently killed three pelicans at one shot. They meas ured between the tips of the wings eight and a half feet. Dr. Hitchcock insists that knowl edge is a preventive of disease, showing that the insane in Massachusetts are nine-tenths uneducated paupers, and so are &u,uuu of tne bu.uuu in asylums in England. Miss Mary Hall, a sister of the late Ezra Hall, has been appointed Commis sioner of the Superior Court of Connec ticut.
