' $hc Daily IJcxvs. I > 10 tNl > IN . FRIDAY AUGUST 30, 1878. OUR CHOICE. For Representative of Grayson and Col- lin Counties,, COL. R. D. ALLISON, Of McKinney. General Hamman's failure to pro- duce any enthusiasm at Austin, says the Statesman, "breaks the backbone of the greenback party in Texas. The blatant members of his party here boasted that they would give him an audience of two thousand greenbackers from Travis and the adjoining counties, and when it was demonstrated that he had hardly more than two hundred white and colored hearers, and that a great many of these were simon pure Dem- ocrats, nothing is left but the reflec- tion that greenbackism in Travis county is hohbling along on very weak legs. It was announced while General Hamman was speaking that the greenback club at Fiokville, which a short while ago had a mem- bership of forty-five, had been reduc- ed to twenty, with probabilities that it will break up entirely.. The rally of yesterday will hasten the col- l...

KV 3E&* Jlailij lirns, DENI WON, SATURDAY AUGUST 31, 1878. A Snaro for Democrats. It has been a wonder to many how some men who, apparently, have no income fiom either their own labor or hoarded wealth, could travel over the country attending greenback con- ventions and harranguing the people. This strange feature cf the party is explained by the New York World, which, by some means, has got hold of a secret circular issued from New York, July 1S78. This circular is headed, "Strictly Confidential." The person to whom it is addressed is to at once enter upon a thorough can- vass of his district, and upon appli- cation to the sub-committee the nec- essary funds for expenses will be furnished. It is specially reconv mended that whenever practicable a ^ Democrat who is a good debator, and who is willing to work for a liberal salary and expenses, be engaged ; the committee agreeing to pay him promptly. "It is expected that all those engaged will advocate the greenback doctrine, the o...
