CRIMINAL COURT, FRIDAY, OCTOBER 20, 1826. [Newspaper Article] — Hobart Town Gazette — 28 October 1826

CRIMINAL COURT   Friday, October 20, 1826. Robert Lathrop Murray was this day arraigned at the bar on two charges of forgery. Both informations being read, Mr. Murray pleaded Not Guilty It was     our wish to give a full report of these trials (as it is indeedof all others which occur in our Courts, of any public in- terest, but which our limited means has hitherto too frequently prevented), but our time was unavoidably so much en- gaged in the publication of the Gazette on Saturday that we have been reluc- tantly compelled to forego our intention   in this instance, and to confiné ourselves to the following outline of the matter in question. Captain Thomas Ritchie, of Launces- ton, had been on intimate terms with Mr. Murray for several years, and during that time many pecuniary transactions had taken place between them. In the year 1823 or I824 an adjustment of accounts was made, the result of which was a ba- lance of £ 156 due by...

MR. ARMISTEAD. FATAL AND MELANCHOLY ACCIDENT. [Newspaper Article] — Hobart Town Gazette — 28 October 1826

MR. ARMISTEAD.   FATAL AND MELANCHOLY ACCIDENT. It is with extreme sorrow we this day discharge the very painful duly of recording in   our pages the untimely death of this much esteemed and amiable young gentleman. On the morning of Saturday last, in company of two young friends he left Town, on a short visit to the country. On reaching the house of Mr. Cassidy at the Old Beach; about three miles beyond Compton ferry, he discovered that by speedily returning to Town he might very materially promote the interest of one of the clients of his friend and employer, Mr. Butler. With this benevolent intention he         retraced his steps, and arrived in Town     between 2 and 3 o'clock on Sunday morning. Anxious to rejoin his companions, although faîiguedj and carnestiy entreated by his Jtieñxla to postpone ¿us ¿el urn till another-day, he again set out, and crossed the ferry about one...
