The Broken Hill Strike. (by telegraph.) Broken Hii l. uly 12. - Things remain extremely quiet, a:.d the pickets are now stopping anyone from going to and from the mines during the day. The usual miners' meeting was well atended, and ' was addressed by the principal leaders of the strike. The strike defenee committee to night issued an appeal to the workers of Austra asia, asking for support on behalf of tl>e workers in the Barrier district; also call it g attention to the agreement entered into between the directors if the Barrer mines and the associated mine e in 1890, pointing out two clauses in the agreement, the first of which states that should any trouble a~ise, the matter in dispute is to be referred to a \ oaid of arbitration of equal representatives from both sides, and that fail ing the art itration board being able to agree, an umpire shall be appointed, who shall he either a Chief Justice or a Judge of the Supreme Court ot any of the Australian colonies. The Late Ix-Lord Jus tice Cotton. U June, 1877, the late Ex-Lord Justice Cotton, was appointed one of the Lord Jus tices of Appeal of the High Court of Judica ture. He was knighted and 6 worn of the Privy Council. In October of the same year Sir Henry received the honorary degree of D.C.L-. from his alum mater, the University of Oxford. He belong to the long roll of distinguished Etonians who went up to Christ Church. His University career was not with out distinction, for he obtained a second class in Literee \ffumaniore8, and a first class in Mathematical Honors in 1842. But he won his laurels at the Bar And on the Bench.
