For the Young. [Newspaper Article] — Morwell Advertiser and Weekly Chronicle — 20 August 1887

For the Youtn,. IVhen waliking along the street the otthr dayr , I saw a h.ly perfor;: a lmost owar!W actionl. Pickingll up a s0tone, he ran up to a little poun tlht wat s trot ting merrily along. and with all his strength flung it at she animal. Now an action of this kind denotes a cruel nature, The boy could not but Iknow that he was inflicting pain : and if this is one of his regular wd1its, the sooner lhe gets quit of it the better. The world woul be ever so much happier and nicer were there more little acts of coulrtesy such as this scene at a street corner. Two or three small boys were chattering together at a1 street corner near to on0e of the Squares in London. The csun had scarcely set, but the long twilight was; coming, when sullddenly a ynouing lady, of perhaps sixteen, walked swiftly aroulnd the corner, and ran1 against one of these street urchllillns, nearly knocking him down. She was hurrying honle flrlai music les son apparently, for she had a roll of music ill her han...

Accident to a Live Stock Train. [Newspaper Article] — Morwell Advertiser and Weekly Chronicle — 20 August 1887

Accident to a Live Stock Train. ———————   The noise of a terrific explosion was heard in the township of Taradale on the Sandhurst line, early on Wednesday even- ing last, the sound coming from 29 gate on the railway line, a few hundred yards away from the Taradale station. It was   soon ascertained that the boiler of the en- gine No. 51 had burst. The explosion took place on the line, nearly opposite the residence of Mr. Fogarty, and immense sheets of iron and fragments of the boiler were seen flying through the air in all di- rections, but the train continued its course for more than 300 yards after the ex- plosion before coming to a standstill. Al- though the accident occurred in a lonely spot, the sound of the explosion and the immense volume of steam that rose up was the means of very quickly attracting   many to the spot. The first sign of life was the appearance of Guard Solomon Paul, and then Fireman Peter McEwan, as- sisting his more s...
