Personal & Political [Newspaper Article] — The Wyalong Advocate and Mining, Agricultural and Pastoral Gazette — 16 February 1901

Personal & Political Two particularly high positions will have to bo filled when the ,Perietal' Parliament meets—the Presidency of the Senate and the Speakership of thtl House of Representatives. Mr, it. E. O'Connor may resign the Vice-Presi dency of the Federal Executive (a Cabinet seat-, without portfolio) and aceept nomination as President of the Senate. Mr. Isaacs, the Victorian Attorney-General, may become Speaker of the House of Representatives Cal culations may be upset, however, by the issue of the elections. Should Mr. Reid secure a decent following he will continue to lead the Opposition. But if he be in a hopeless minority, lie may be invited to accept the Speakership— a position of great dignity and distinc-, tion. Then there is the post of High | Coinuiissioner in London, Mr. Hoi-' der's great Federal services may be recognised by his appointment. lit is worthy of note that as far back •as August last—six months ngo—Mr. Edward Terry, M.P., published a com prehen...

DARLfNG NURSERY. Messrs. P. L. C. Shepherd and Son, about a year ago, secured this old established Nursery, and have been busy stocking it with all the most popular kinds of Trees and Plants— which tliey supply at most reasonable rates in large or small quantities. They also supply Seeds of every description from their warehouse, 202 Pitt-street, Sydney. LIVING PICTURES INSTRUCTIONS HOW TO 'GIVE THE BISCUITS. HORACE LACHMUND, . Aged S months; son of Mrs. H. Laclimund, GO Lower Fort-streot, Sydney. For VERY YOUNG CHIL DREN, rub the biscuits very lightly ou Mclean nutmeg grater, or crush -very fine and sieve ■through a -siwp, mix ciitefully with boiling water, stirring well, and give through feeding bottle or by spo^n, As there is milk in them it is not advisable to add it. Town Topics. [BY OBSERVER.] [Newspaper Article] — The Wyalong Advocate and Mining, Agricultural and Pastoral Gazette — 16 February 1901

Town Topics [by observer.] Now that the Municipal elections nre over, Wyalong is again assuming a state of peacefulness—although it has not quite got down to Zero yet. It is indeed a pfty thud; such bitterness existed during the campm'gn, Mr. Editor; and " Observer" during the course of a few constitutional walks saw malice and envy thrown very strongly one against the other- -both sides alike—and it is to be hoped that all the harsh words that have been said will now be drawn back and each congratulate one another on the way in which (hey fought for th<jir rospee live aides, with, a shake of the hand. It must be said that Wyalong has advertised itself all over the colony— as a more exciting election has never taken place. Let us all hope that the new Council will conductthe business in harmony—and not let the rate payers have a repetition of what ocecurred last year—which was also record. Who will the next Mayor be ' is now an every day question As far as I am concerned,...

A Notable Federal Address. [Newspaper Article] — The Wyalong Advocate and Mining, Agricultural and Pastoral Gazette — 16 February 1901

A Notablo" Federal Address. Speaking the other flay at Hyde, Mr. Edward Terry, M.P., tersely de lined his Federal ideas. He said it was.the right of every citizen to sub mit his name and his policy to the sovereign people and it was equally the right of the sovereign people to judge him on his credentials of candidature, and to support or oppose him on his merits or demerits. It was fcr him to unfold a Federal policy, it was for them to justify or reject it. He re minded them that us far back as Aug. lust, he had published at length his Federal programme and the compli ment of having been first in .the field with detailed opinions had been paid him. Before entering upon a more detailed discussion of the vast issues raised for decision, he desired to im press upon the Federal electors the point that he was determined to main tain the character for independence which had marked his public career. He would be chained to the chariot wheels of no party, clique, coterie or combination. Th...
