As a piece of engineering ve have no doubt it would be highly successful; but the ques- tion that interests the residents of the valley is, whether it will be beneficial ; and from our Knowledge of this locality, as well as from all we have heard, from those who know it better, we are inclined ti belier.- it will not. Nothing can I e.u irrigation if, a> our contemporary, the Cumber lund Mei ctn y observes it is intelligently worked. Jf this irrigation scheme were intended to supply a long felt want to a dried up p.aili, lying far from a running stream, as well as to supply towns in its course with drinking water, there might then be some reason in it. But in this ease, nothing of the kind is con- templated. Nowhere is the valley of the Hawkesbury of any great width...
