Empire Day LOCAL SOCIAL CELEBRATIONS, Empire Day, which falls on Sunday (to-morrow) was observed yesterday by the 'Education Department. Spe cial lessons appropriate to the occa sion were given, whilst the ceremony of saluting the flag was also per formed at: the various schools. - BRIGHTON. 'At 'the Brighton, Erlsternwick and Orphanage schools special lessons were conducted, whilst addresses on the day, being celebrated were given by the teachers. During the recess the ceremony of saluting the flag took place; and suitable songs were rend ered by the scholars. Speeches were also made by Mr W. A. Adamson, M.L.C., Mr. O. R. Snowball, M.L.A. Cr. Stone, Cr. Hall, Mr. J. H. Tay. lor (town clerk), Rev. Law, and Mr. J. Entaisle (A.N.A.), and were listened to attentively by the chil dren, who, at the conclusion, gave three cheers.
