The Famous Smelting Works near Freiburg, Saxony. (CONTINUED). [Newspaper Article] — The Moruya Times and South Coast Journal — 19 June 1889

The Famous Smelting Works near Freiburg, Saxony. (Cosiinued) To recount and describe the hundreds of different processes employed would tire the reader, nor would he have a clear conception were I to describe the six leaden chambers of the sulphuric acid factory, which contain with the fall towers 20,000 cubic metres of space, or the dust chambers which contain 19000 cubic metres; two small pans how ever I will in passing refor to, very snnplo tolook at, looking and sounding to the touch very much like common tin. and yft'they represent, the vafte of a fine country' seat. The apparent tin is platinum, which, as is well known, comes neatest to gold in value ; the cost of the larger one was £3,000, that of the smaller £1,800. They are used to concentrate the sulphuric aeid to 66 degrees., leaden vessels permitting concentration to£0 degrees only. The Fascine Embankment at the Moruya River. [Newspaper Article] — The Moruya Times and South Coast Journal — 19 June 1889

The Fascine Embankment at the Moruya River. A few days ago wo made statements with regard to the satisfactory test which the fascine banks at Cook's River had undergone .during the late heavy weather. The Works Department has now a report of an equally Satisfactory nature relative to a similar eui Idnkment which is being constructed at the Moruya River for the purpose of conBning 4-1ia f{Ja] O aw This is /ioomAfl f.A da 6lin more encouraging as in this place the work has been subjected, to even a greater test thaa that which the embankment at Cook's River has had to undergo. The officer in charge of the work states, to use his own wordB : — 'The dyke has stood against the heavy sea splendidly. For three days the huge wash— indeed, I may rail it seas — off the bar swept over about 300ft. of the dyke on the eastern end and never displaced a foot of it. Only at the extreme end where we had our first course of ti-treejn, did we receive any injuryworth naming. Here we had 10 or 12 bundle...

Lawn Tennis. [Newspaper Article] — The Moruya Times and South Coast Journal — 19 June 1889

Lawn Tennis. By Unnkb. Upon tho invitation nf Mr, and Mrs. E. SI. Mort, Derraqnin, several of the Moruya Tennis players visited Bodnlla on Saturday last for the pur posu of playing a tournament with the players of the latter place. About a month ago the Moruyaites had to succumb to the superior play of the Bodalla team ; but it was generally thought that our repre sentatives would make a better fight on this occasion ; and so it proved, although victory once more smiled ou the. -home players. There wen one or two exciting games, nob ably the single set between Mrs. Mort and Mr. Wittinghnm, but eventually the iast named player made the winning strok j after a brilliant exhibition by two really good ex ponents of the game. M r. Cpton (to my mind the surest player on the ground) subse quently defeated Mr. Wittingham in a rather easy manner. Mr. E. M. Mort showed his thorough practical knowledge of the game, but evident want of practice was disuomable in many of his strokes. Tho ladies ...
