METHODIST PICNIC! and SPORTS The annual pionic and sports iu aid of the Methodist Church took place on Easter Monday, 28th March, and was ill ©very way a great success. The day was a glorious one, and about 400 people embraced the opportunity of spending; a good holiday. The total proceeds amounted to £36, which is above the average returns. Great credit is due to all those who worked so well to make the event a success, also to the public for their liberal' patronage ; and the Methodists wish to thank all who assisted iu any way.' A splendid luncheon was provided,■: and the ladies responsible deserve great praise. The tables were nicely; arranged, and were temptingly be-, decked with the ohoicest .luxuries in the culinary art. FRUIT-FLY AND KEROSENE. [Newspaper Article] — Canowindra Star and Eugowra News — 8 April 1910

I FRUIT-FLY AND KEROSENE. A Western Australian orchardist has made what he claims to be an im portant discovery in connection with the extermination of the fruit-fly. Last season Mr Jones, of Guildford, in the State named, while drying some of his produce, was troubled by the ants ) attacking the fruit. To keep them ' away he used kerosene round the posts which supported the verandah on which the fruit lay. The children no ticed that the fruit-flies were attracted by the kerosene, and' with bits of board killed a number. This season Mr Jones again smeared the posts, and watched the flies come. He found that it was easy to kill them. He then told Mr Walter Harper' of what he had dis covered. Mr Harper, after some trials, found that the flies were attracted by other odours besides kerosene, and pro ceeded to experiment with cyanide and other poisons on ripe fruit. The re sults are promising. Mr Jones tol'l Mr Dovenish, of Guildford, of his koroser.o experiments, and Mr Denevish placed...

An effective method of pulling posts after the wire had been removed is sliown in the above illustration, which is taken from the "Prairie Farmer" : — Tnke an. old corn planter wheel, attach a chain to the base oC the post, and pass it over the top of the wheel to the wliillle-trees, as shown in the illustra tion. This makes a very convenient de vice, and posts can be pulled without very much difficulty.
