Disappearing Wool Stocks The Regulatiig of Offerings. [Newspaper Article] — The Western Champion — 29 April 1922

Disappearing Wool Stocks I The Regalatiig of Offerings. Messrs. Winoboombe, Carson Ltd. report ?nderdate April 20thWith tho sales of American Government owned wools held in March, the huge stocks of wool accumu lated by the United States War Depart ment were finally liquidated. These stocks at the signing of the Armistice totalled dyer 600 million lbs. Their sale ih a little over three years is a feat of no mean order. In normal times the U.S.A. mills consumed about 600 million lbs. of raw wool. But daring the period in which the stocks mo tioned have been sold, big imports of wool from abroad bare been made and the dear ance of the country s own annual domestic clip effected. The passing of this accumulation draws Attention to the probable disappearance of Bawra perino stocks this year, and of fiawia oroBsbreds some 18 months to 2 yeacs henoo. 201.000 bales of merino and 1,244,000 bales of crossbreds have yet to find buyers. THE WESTERN CHAMPION Vita sine literIS mors est. BARCALDINE,SATURDAY, APRIL, 29, 1922. "Because They Work." [Newspaper Article] — The Western Champion — 29 April 1922

' Vita sine liter|g mora est |BABCALDINE,SATUBDAY, APBlU»riK2 I " Because They Work." -oOo Queensland' is nnmbered with the nn-1 employed, and the wail of the work lees is to be heard on all sides, in 1 total and country, far and nqar, and 1 lond and low. The Government re flues to consider any policy of immi gration, because the Bons and daughters1 of the soil look and call in vain for work. The onion organisers and secre taries, bat not necessarily union mem bets, repudiate every suggestion of employment with soorn, because the employers, in general, refuse to pay a wage that will put them in the Insol vency Court in six months or less. The High Wage policy has resulted in the Elusive Wage theory-in fact, at many places, a No-Wage-At-AU practice is the result. In Bpite of all thiB, it is curious indeed, to note the strong stream of immigration that has set in from Italy-no IpBS than 281 persons arrived in Brisbane in one week teoently. Their passages were paid for by themselves-an...

Cattle Raising. A Paralysed Industry. [Newspaper Article] — The Western Champion — 29 April 1922

Cattle liaising. A Paralysed Industry. The present depressed position of tbe cattle market was well reflected in the prices obtained at tbe recent ea'e« i f sh'jw stock at Tenterfield (says the " Sydney Morniug Herald"). When go* d fut bullocks realise only £i, although on the average theso animals would neigh 6001b. dressed, and a first*prize liorefo d bull was disposed of at three guineas, rome idea of the nbsolute stagnation in the industry may be obtained. Only n i«w weeks ago the writer s»w prima bullocks, which had just benti sold tor less than half the price paid by their owuer 18 months bi'foru. Tho position was effpctivf'ly pot by Mr. Henry Willie, who, although residing near Sydney, has station interests at Kooringa, Koma, Queensland. In tbe coarse of his statement, advocating tbe disposal of surplus stocks in England, ho said: " In QuetiiBiaU'i whore I have interests, it is incuuibont that something should be done to afford relief to a givut body of men who are being crus...
