A RIVER PORT. [Newspaper Article] — The Mount Barker Courier and Onkaparinga and Gumeracha Advertiser — 4 March 1927

A RIVER PORT. Mr. P. M. Cutlack, writing in the "Sydney Morning Herald," Mr. Cut lack states inter alia:—From the look of things, it seems (clear that Melbourne will give in and accept Portland—or any alternative—rather than see the bulk-of trade of the river valley going down by the natural way of the river to the- sea. Certainly Melbourne has its answer pat enough in this parochial argument. There is no Murray seaport to receive the trade, and the Adelaide Hills railway is a ridiculous outlet. Three years ago the Adelaide Hills railway had all. it coPd do to move the wheat crop of Loxto.-i district in South Australia out of its natural course down river and on to the capital city's railway system. River Traffic Inevitable. Granted that Australia is going to remain r white man's country, and to : develop her production, there is and i tan be sio possible doubt of the ultl- i iiiate p :ocedure. The Murray sea port w..i came, if only because it. must. The railways, which to-day 3eem ...

CHURCH OF CHRIST AND DR. MARTIN LUTHEA. [Newspaper Article] — The Mount Barker Courier and Onkaparinga and Gumeracha Advertiser — 4 March 1927

CHURCH OF CHRIST AND OR. MARTIN LUTHEA. Mr. Arnold should not complain of my 1 alleged "personalities" for if St. Paul had dealt with him for his interference with Christian liberty he would have fared far worse, as is oianlfest from Gal. 1: 7-9. His attempt to escape my Just censure for vilifying and maligning Luther is clearly unsuccessful as will be readily seen from his previous letter and my comments. Furthermore, in his letter ..(February 11th) Mr. Arnold writes': "and ihat is one reason why I am not a Lutheran still" and (February 25th) he writes: "never having been a follower of Luther." What a glaring contradic tion of his own statements. His mis givings as to the. propriety of retaining i the name Lutheran for our church should be - easily dispelled by the consideration that the ■ Bible nowhere forbids its use. We are therefore, at liberty to employ It Just as we are at perfect liberty to ! baptize by washing, pouring, and sprink- i ling. We glory in this name, because it ...

HIGH PRODUCING FRESIANS AT MONTEITH. [Newspaper Article] — The Mount Barker Courier and Onkaparinga and Gumeracha Advertiser — 4 March 1927

high producing fresians at MONTEITH. Mr. H. Mount Stephen, of Monteith, River Murray, and Mr. Walter Hawker, of Clare, as also Messrs. Halliday aod Morris are the owners of some won-' derful producing Fresian heifers. Mr. Mountstephen has just displaced Mr. Walter Hawker as the holder of the record producing junior two year old heifer. River Glen "Inka Mary" has put up some wonderful figures, her butterfat production being 469 lbs^ in 273 days, and averaged at least five gallons of milk for every day of her period. This heifer, like "Holland Queen Gem," the property of Mr. Wal ter Hawker, was bred by Mr. F. Han naford, of Murray Bridge, and pro duced 444 lbs. of butterfat as a junior two year old. At time of calving, "Inka 'Mary" was one year and eleven months, as against two years and tour months of Mr. Hawker's heifer, so she was also younger and produced greater fat results. Another pro mising producer of Mr. Mountstephen's herd is "Duchess of Lydholme," who has in 160 days produ...
