Monday, April 1. THE Court opened at 10 o'clock. [Newspaper Article] — Rockhampton Bulletin — 2 April 1872

Monday, April 1. THE Court opened at 10 o'clock. Mr. Pring, Q.C., addressed the jury. After come remarks upon the identity of the land claimed with that described in the deed of grant to Kelly, and contending that the evidence was most conclusive on these points, the learned gentleman said the question was, whether Mrs. Brandon had satisfied the jury that she was the heiress of George Harris de Rusett, to whom tho land had been conveyed. He (Mr. Pring) was sorry that he should still have to occupy their attention for some time. The case was apparently a difficult one to work out, but it bad been a more difficult one to open than it would be to sum up the evidence. He con- fessed that in opening tho case he felt that it was tinged with an air of romance; but in summing up he was presenting them with a firm, solid, and true story. Before proceeding to sum up the evidence, however, be would make a remark on its nature. As he stated in opening, the law allowed the reception of evidence ...

The Rockhampton Bulletin, WITH WHICH IS INCORPORATED THE GLADSTONE OBSERVER. THURSDAY, APRIL 4, 1872. [Newspaper Article] — Rockhampton Bulletin — 4 April 1872

WITIl WHICH IB 1NC0BP0RATKU THE GLADSTONE OBSERVER. THURSDAY, APRIL 4, 1872. TEE gentlemen who waited upon the honorable Mr. BBAMSTON on Tuesday bad, we opine, two objects in view. Firstly, to fish for information, and, secondly, to impress upon the Govern- ment the necessity of attention to our local wants. Bat Mr. BBAJISTON would not be caught, and he accepted the energetic representations of the several speakers much in the same way as erring sinners are accustomed to receive good advice. Not that the honorable gentleman was discourteous or ungenial; tpiite the contrary. He evinced a kindly interest in the welfare of Rockhampton which could not be otherwise than gra- tifying to the deputation. Yet it is un- deniable that towards the close of the interview he, figuratively speaking, eat ; on pins and needles. While listening to fervent orations on the lapsed vote for public buildings and the north side dam, he contemplated with ill-concealed anxiety the face of his watch ; and al-...

THE WOOL MARKET. (S. M. Herald.) [Newspaper Article] — Rockhampton Bulletin — 4 April 1872

THE WOOIi MARKET. TUE mail has brought us the annual wool reports for the year 1871, and they i all, of cours», comment on the extra- ordinary rise in what is still our groat I staple article of production. Philoso- phers may talk about the possibility of predicting future events on the basis of past history, but we are evidently a long way from that at present. Ko one con- nected with the wool trade-neither producers nar manufacturers, nar brokers, nor merchants-foresaw what has happened. They were perpetually studying their particular business, scanning the present and future as closely as they could, with large experience to guide them, and with the keen stimulus af self-interest ta prompt them. Yet one and all failed to see before them what they now see lying behind them. {S. M. Berali.) Tho end of the year 1870 found the wool trade at a very low ebb.
