Cubs in Slump; Problems Erupt by Tony AIo Asst. Sports Editor "If anybody told me iast year that we would be 3-4 after 7 games this season I would have told them they were crazy - but here we are!" That's the reaction of Coach Clarence Stoner to the Behrend baseball team's horrendous start this season. Stoner doesn't know if the problems are mental or what - but there are problems - lots of them. The biggest problem is probably at shortstop. The three people that have played at that position so far have combined for no less than 11 errors so far - not exactly what you'd call flawless defense! They are all fine players, it's just unfortunate that the problems have centered at short. The other big problem is the pitching. Last year's almost unhittable and unbeatable onetwo punch of Mark Lytle and Tom Wright have proved less effective than they were last year. The relief staff hasn't been much better. The staff has been serving up the good pitches and enemy hitters are getting ...

Behrend Netters Remain Undefeated The Behrend Campus tennis team clinched victories four and five this week by beating Lakeland Community College, 6-3, and Cuyahogo-Metro, 6-1. With these victories in hand the team will travel to Allegheny-South in Pittsburgh searching for their sixth victory and keeping their undefeated season intact. Coach Lauffer is very confident that this years netters should do the same job on them as they did last year. Next Tuesday, Lakeland will be coming to Behrend, searching for revenge on last Saturday's loss. The final score of the match was 6-3 in Behrend's favor, but all Lakeland has to do is win two more points out of nine, and they will be the victors. In looking over the outcome of last Saturday's matchit looks improbable that Lakeland will go home with a victory. One of the two singles loses for Behrend was at the number two position where Jay Baker went down to defeat against Jim Hise. He lost the first set, 6-3, but came back the second,...

SGA Candidates State Views For Next Week's Elections tensively. We can also print pieces of paper with the names, phone numbers, and addresses of all SGA members to be given to every freshman by his student advisor. Also during Orientation Weekall SGA members can visit every room in the dorms to talk to the students about SGAand to urge them to ask any questions. In other words, every student in the dorms would talk to an SGA member sometime during Orientation Week. Throughout the year, the minutes of SGA meetings can be posted in the buildings for students to read. With all of these programs in operation next year, SGA can better represent the entire student body. I believe that I have the ability to implement these changes on order to developea more effective SGA. Sid Goldstein (3,Hum Dev. Erie) is also seeking election to the presidency. Sid believes that bad management and student apathy are responsible for the sad shape of the SGA. "I intend to increase the quality and ...

Letters to the Editor Union Board Names Reps For 72-73 Dear whoever cares, Student cries are heard all over campus because they are uninformed about campus activities. First, I would like to ask the students if they can read. The bulletin boards have every bit of the activity published, but no one reads the signs. A lot of the signs are ripped down, specifically the Spring Arts Festival Publicity posters were removed by the students. This student newspaper carries quite a lot of publicity for the student activities, but what percentage of people care enough to read? Student cries are heard as whimpers when they desire change, for any a few on 1500 care enough to work for a change. This campus has no culture, this campus has no big name groups. This campus doesn't have enough faculty members to teach courses for the students. This campus doesn't have an adequate library. This campus does not have adequate classroom facilities. This campus does not have adequate athletic Fac...

Committee Formed to Save The Presque Isle Peninsula The Erie branch of the First National Bank of Pennsylvania is sponsoring a citizen's action committee to save Presque Isle. This committee was formed in January 1972, after extensive investigation of the erosion taking place on the beaches. Members of the committee include: Larry Grean, G.E.; John Bowman, Sr. Vice President, FNB; Jack McNab, Boston Store; Bob Sutherland, WJET; Pete Coticchia, WJET; Al Benidict, WSEE; Jim Zurn, Zurn Corp.; and Joe Meagher of the Erie Times. Presque Isle Peninsula probably was formed approximately 1,000 years ago and it is moving northeasterly along the shore at an estimated rate of one-half mile each 100 years. Beach erosion at Presque Isle Peninsula has been a recurring problem for more than 100 years. The first beach erosion study by the U.S. Corps of Engineers was conducted in 1819. From 1833 to 1852 there was a channel through the peninsula and, during this period, bulkheads were constru...
