¦ John A Collier Kding Tlonndthe Town- Hardly a man in the State is wider known otsara inveterate wag and joker than John A. TJollier. His reputation as a logical reasoner and sound lawyer is net more extensive than his fame as a humorist and piquant narrator of comical events. His speech in thenational House of Representatives, some twenty years ago, in which he likened the evolutions of the Democracy of thii State, under the command of tneA|bany Regency to die varied movements or a contra dance, was a capital hit and placed him at once in the front rank of satirical debaters. This wis followed by sereral contributions to the newspaper press, hi which the peculiarities of well known politicians were ridiculed—all without malice , but in a very happy and effective manner.,. Hu, description of the last entertainment given by Mr. Van Baren, previously to has retirement from the Presidency—a fancy .sketch, of course^—was p-^tly admired, and had a general run through the papers....
