Deatit oti CAFTi Washington.—A. notice in- the list of deaths, in to-day's paper, terminates the painful suspense as to the fate of Capt, E. Crawford Washington, 13th Infuntry, U. S. Army. It was known that he fell while most gallantly lending a charge with ,hia battalion at Vieksburg, on theiijtli of'May laati and was captured by the, enemy. Eflbrts wore made b y some of .his companions in arms to secure his exchange, if alive, or recover his body if dead, soen after ; but the flag of truce was fired on, and, until the capture of Vicksburg, no information could be obtained as to hia condition. A ray of hope .sprang from a despatch received here by his family, some weeks ago, stating that he was wounded, but safe on 1 a gun boat en route for Memphis; but it-proved an error, and the hope it inspired faded away into keener sorrowms the capture of "Vickbure left no room to doubt that ho had sacrificed his life: upon the altar of his country. We have no particulars of his death ot...

Axother YicTi.M.—Last " Monday a lad about 14 years off age, George Bhodes by nurae, in attempting to ' jump on the passenger train while in motion, lost his hold, and was thrown upon the track. The wheel after tearing from tKe?bonc_alarge flap of flesh, passed over the,leg immediately above the ancle, crushing the bone dreadfully. We saw the poor boy the moment after the acci¬ dent. He sat on the ground holding hiB knee with both ' hnndsj- ejaculating "they pushed me under! they pushed me under.'" It was a most sickening, si ght, rendered doubly so by the reflection that, humanly speaking, it should not have happened. Boys of his age should be taught better. Boys of his age should be controlled by their parents, and not ¦ permitted to play about the cars. ¦ Employees of the Eailrond should not under any circumstances allow boys to jump on or from the cars when in motion. We, "would humbly thank any one, Kailroad employee or not, to whip our boj s if they ever catch them tryin...
