KUROPATKIN IS CAPTURED . THE LATEST ADVICES FROM NEW YORK CITY. While This Has Not Been Confirmed, Russia Has Met Her Sedan at Tie Pass. The latest advice from New York is that General Kuropatkin has been cap tured. This information was telegraphed about the time of going to press, and while unconfirmed, may be accepted as probable. Indeed, if it be not a fact, it is because Kuropatkin has been favored with blunders on the part of the Japan ese, as was Hood's army when retreating from Tennessee after the battle of Nashville. Had not the Federals blun dered. Hood could not have escaped with his army. Since the battle at Muk den Kuropatkin has been hard pressed' by Kuroki, Nogi and Ukra in front and i flanks, while Kamimura has been exe icuting a movement of which little is known except to Oyama. who has not mi...

LIGHlT ON HIGHll LICENSE INTERESTING CASE IS BEFORE THE SUPREME COURT. Dealer Paid $4000 a Year License and Made a Good Living-The Case Came Up From DeSoto. The Times-Democrat, March I8. says: A case that throws a flood of light upon the high license question was argued Monday before the Supreme Court of Louisiana. It is the case of D). E. Evans et als 1s. Police Jury of DeSoto Parish. J. H. Sutherlin of Mansfield argued the case for the plaintiffs, ana Judge Pugh of Shreveport for the defendants. The record is very full and tells a story that will be of interest to all who are concerned in the regulation of the liquor traffic. It appears that the police jury of De Soto parish, at its regular meeting in November, 1904, levied a tax for the sale of intoxicating liquors in the town of Mansfield at $5ooo a year. The record shows that the parish of DeSoto is a prohibition parish by virtue of an elec tion held under the local option laws in the year 1895, and that a year later the town o...

FannyCrorby. The Blind Hjym n Writer S UNDA. March 26, is to be ob observed in many Christian .churches as "Fanny Crosby da:y." It was on March 24, 1820. in Southeast. Putnam county, N. Y., that the blind writer of sacred songs was born. and it has been thought fit ting that those who love -her hymns should pay her a tribute of agection on the Sunday nearest to her eighty-fifth birthday. Her home Is in Bridgeport, Conn.. and she is passing the closing years of a life that has been full of useful activity i the enjoyment of well earned honors. At the age of six months little Fran ces Jane Crosby had as good eyesight as the average baby. The application of hot poultices to the eyes 'during an illness destroyed the optic nervs, and the little one was rendered sightless. At nineteen she was sent to the Institution For the BMind in New York city and there became so proficient in knowledge of the alphabet for the blind that she was made an instructor in the institu tion.
