This is one of the email opera tions, affecting oftimes a whole crop, and lasting Injuriously through a whole ecason. Unless in a sandy soil, any stirring or moving by spade, plow or harrow, when wet, tend3 to eompress and compact its particles, when the object is or ought to be, to pulverize and make mellow. Facts In tho Natural History of the Honey Kce. There are three classes of bees in a hive, the Worker, Qv ear, and Drone. I'uecns are raised by peculiar food lorm and treatment from eggs that i would otherwise produce workci'3. I The worker is an undeveloped fc- j male. "Workers in the absence of a queen sometimes lay eggs. These in- Tnriably produce drones. Tho queen lives from two to live years. The worker from two to threo months in the working season, and from six to eight during the sea son of rest. The queen is perfected in fifteen or sixteen days from tho egg, the worker ia twenty to twenty-one, and the drone in twenty-four. The queen usually commences lay ing from seven to twelve days after leaving tho cell, and Is capable of laying irom two to three thousand ggs in a day. Tho impregnation of the queen always takes place outside the hive on the wing, and generally the fourth or liftli day after leaving the cell. Kkcepting in rare cases, one impreg- ! nation answers for life. ...
