LIGHT AND THE EYES We Do Not Always See Things as They Really Are. COLORS WE CANNOT DISCERN Iormal Vision Is Not Able to Pene trate to the Regions Beyond the Vio let-Some Results That Have Been Attained With the Camera. Those of us who are fortunate enough to possess normal eyes are apt to feel instinctively that we see things as they are. This is a mistake. The appearance of the world at large is merely the result of the circumstance that the human eye perceives only a comparatively small part of the total radiation which comes from the sun or is given out by a lamp. To make this a little clearer we may consider one of the oldest experiments in optics, the passage of a ray of light through a prism. When a beam of sunlight passes through a prism of glass such as is often found on old fashioned chande liers the rays are spread out, forming a spectrum, which we see as a rain bow colored band upon the wall. The colors of the spectrum merge into one another by insensible gradations, tho...

An Easter Social Event A post-Easter function that will long be remembered was the 1:30 o'clock luncheon given on Monday afternoon by Mesdames W. F. Jor dan, Geo. Beasley and J. P. Dono hue at the home of Mrs. Jordan. The house was a profusion of pink and white, being decorated through out with Easter lilies and ferns. In the dining room, the pink and white effect even embraced the candles, which had pink shades. The chan deliers were also a mass of flowers. Both the invitations and the place cards were artistic monogram cre ations. After a 5-course luncheon, whist was played at six tables. At the fin ish it was found that the high score was a tie between Mesdames Carr, Gilmore, Leiper and ...

Two Great Trunk Lines Biliings, Mont., March 24.-(Spe cial)-Two great trunk lines of im proved highways extending across Montana, one from east to west, the other from north to south, and cost ing approximately $4,500,000, are believed by Billings business men to be not only vastly important but en tirely feasible and practicable propo sitions, and to the end that they be constructed, the Chamber of Com merce will labor assiduously from this time on until the meeting of the good roads convention in June. "Montana is sadly in need of im proved roads," said P. B. Moss, at a meeting of the Chamber of Com merce, "and nothing will be of greater benefit to the common wealth than their construction in every part of it.; "The distance from Glendive to Missoula is approximately 600 miles and consider for a moment what a continuous highway, one that is built to a high degree of perfection, would mean.
