Subscription $1.00 a year TAFT LEADS ALL OTHERS FOR PRESIDENT Washington Special Says He is Popular Choice for Republican President Every man well versed in poli tics who has anlyzed the Republi can presidential situation has come to the conclusion that Secretary of War Taft is leading his competi tors in the race for the nomination. No matter whether the analysis is a partisan and prefers to see a rival of the secretary head the national ticket next year, he is forced to admit this patent fact. Not only do the shrewd political observers acknowledge it, but even the vari ous candidates themselves, view ing the outlook, as they do, from a more or less prejudiced standpoint, confess it. Believes Bill is Author of Hisj Works. I C. P. JONES That William Shakespeare was the author of all Shakespenan workes is the belief of Charles B. J Hansford, the noted actor appear-1 ing in Shakespearian roles at the Crawford theater in this city this week. Speaking to a News represena tive on the subject, Mr. Hanford expressed himself emphatically on the subject of the authorship of the dramatization of which he is now appearing on the staye. "There is no question in my mind but what Shakespheare wrote the works credited to him," said Mr. Hanford, "and in fart there never has been. There is no rea son for believing that anyone else wrote them. Why should Francis Bacon or anybody else create such treat works and then be ashamed of them? "Yes, Shakespeare wrote "The Merchant of Venice,' and he meant to each a lesson thereby. He was looking forward to the time when the Jew should stand before the world respected as we see him to day. i X X X X X I X X X X X X X X TWENTY REASONS WHY NEW MEXICO SHOULD BE ADMITTED AS A STATE. 1 New Mexico should be admitted as a state because franchise and sufferage through the medium of the ballot box are birthrights of every American citizen. New Mexico should be admitted as a state because its inhabitants are not cast in a mould different from that of any other citizens ol this country and they are fully capable of governing themselves. New Mexico should be admitted as a state because it has outgrown its present form of government, and wants to take a hand in making the federal laws it is forced to obey without other representation than a voteless delegate in Congress. New Mexico should be admitted to statehood because it was promised sovereignty over sixty years ago by Guad alupe Hidalgo. New Mexico should be admitted as a state because it has a liberty-loving and patriotic people who want to be full-fledged citizens instead of mere "residents." New Mexico should be admitted as...
