THE # BRAND The Brand Officitl Organ of D«af Smith County Official Organ of Castro County THE BAPTIST COLLEGE. Well, the Baptist College question is settled, and we hope the Baptists of the Panhandle are satisfied with the result of their commission's work. While every man feels that his particular town should have been awarded the college, the Hereford people hope that the Baptists and other citizens of the Panhandle will accept the decision of the commis- sion and do all in their power to make the college a success in every way in its present location. The Canyon people are to be congrat- ulated, not only for having captured the prize, but for having a citizen who is wealthy enough and public spirited enough to donate cash enough to insure the college for his town, as did Louis Lester, president of the Stockmen's National Bank, who donated $10,000 in addition to the $1000 he had already sub- scribed. Canyon's future is assured if this loyal citizen continues to boost the town—with...

THE # BRAND FROM TEXICO. Interesting Items From the New Town on the Mexico Border. A good rain fell this morning, for which we are thankful. Ed Harwell went to Hereford to- day to visit relatives and friends. Col. A. G. Boyce and George Findlay were prospecting in Texico Saturday. Jack Harwell is having his new home painted inside and out in the latest style. Thirty homesteads filed on in one week. Is everybody going to live in New Mexico? L. B. Blair has a brother^from Childress, Texas, assisting him at the tonsorial parlors. Five buggies loaded with happy young folks from Bovina attended the meeting here last night. Mrs. Mart Roberson and children left for Wichita Falls Tuesday, their old home, where they will visit friends. Miss Lillie Wilson of Hereford was visiting Mrs. Lizzie Boone the past week, and while here filed on a beautiful homestead. The fishermen passed here headed homeward and as they didn't drop anything off at this point, we gave them credit for the usual luck. El...
