THE FEDEItAL. ELECTIONS. ME TRENWITH AT CORRYONG. Mr W. A- Tronwith, one of tho Liberal C-indidates for tho Senate, addressed a public mooting in tho Athe»a;iim Hull, Corryong, on Friday evening. About fifty electors were present, and tho ad dress was listened to with close attention. Mr Cronin, J.P., president of tho local branch of the People's Party, occupied tho chair, and introduced the speaker. Mr Tronwith, who was received with applause, said tho object of the Liberal party was a moat important 0110, viz., to mould lawn to conduce to the prosperity of the people and make the country better. To malto a country prosperous it must bo well governed. Australians enjoyed a privilege almost unique. Every man and woman had a voto and equal rights in ■> tho scheme of government. THE FAKillEKS' CONVENTION. GENERAL NOTES. Maryborough, the scene of the recent Farmers' Convention, is an important town with a population ot over 5.000, situated 112 miles north of Melbourne in the centre of a large agricultural district and extensive mining area. The land in the immediate vicinity of the town is ston.v, but there is splendid country a few miles out, especially to the south and east, and it is an im portant distributing centre for agricul tural and pastoral produce. It is con nected by rail with Ballarat on the south. Ararat on the west, Castlemaine and Beudigo on the east, and the mallei: towns and Miklura on the north, aud the railway station and workshops (costing over fzo,ooo) are probably the finest in the state o.uts:.ie of .Melbourne. D1ITV TO l»A«E!V'rS. The following interesting sermon on "Duty to Parents" was preached by the Kev. F. II. I'eake in All Saints' Church, Corryong, and we have been asked to reprint it. The text was taken from E.\'odus x.v, 12—"Honour thy father and thy mother that thy days may be long upon the land which thee Lord thy God givcth IheQ." This command, "Honour," involves four things, viz., I,ove, Obedience, Bespect, and Worldly Support. We will deal with them in their order. Lov6 first, the natural instinct in man, pciuts; to the religious duty, "Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself." The afFec tionate feeling which parents naturally have for their children . demands a re jturn with tenfold interest. In sorrow or in sin, our parents cling to us.
