The Sydney Eisteddfod. [Newspaper Article] — The Blue Mountain Echo — 3 July 1909

The Sydney Eisteddfod. The Welsh community of Sydney is, at the moment of writing, showing unmistakable signs of breaking out into a particularly violent Eistedd fod shortly, and it is the sincere desire of this journal — which has the very kindest feeling to wards Wales, since it learnt that' Welsh Rabbit was a ' made dish,' and not an export from the Principalit}- — that the Welsh community will get over it, whatever it is. This year's Bisteddfod threatens to be rendered much more serious than usual in some cities owing to the inclusion of a ceremony known as ' chairing the Bard.' ADVERTISING THE MOUNTAINS. [Newspaper Article] — The Blue Mountain Echo — 3 July 1909

ADVERTISING THE MOUNTAINS. It ivS regrettable that no action can betaken in the waj' of advertising the Blue Moun tains at the forthcoming Queensland Exhi bition, as such opportunities are extremely rare for bringing under the notice of a large number of people of an adjoining State the advantages of this glorious district. Not that there has been, any lack 01 enthusiasm on the part of the residents along the line, nor any difficulty in collecting sufficient funds' to thoroughly carry out the project, but simply because there is no space avail able that would be worth having. When .the Committee, appointed by a general meeting of residents some weeks ago, took the matter up, a wire was sent to the Sec retary of the Exhihition asking for a given quantity of space and cost thereof, no reply was received for some days, when a second wire was sent, which brought an unsatis factory reply. No letter was received from the Exhibition management in reply to the wires sent, nor any particular...

Varia. [Newspaper Article] — The Blue Mountain Echo — 3 July 1909

Varia. Still, at Blackheath, and I am beginning to feel quite like a resident of this charm ing little town. If I were in the Homeland it would be the proper thing to speak of Blackheath as a village. And I like this name better. What a pity it. should be against Australian etiquette to call it so ! Now. if is onlv when a few of us oldfash ioned ones get together that we dare to breathe the word. Certainly the Shire Council has made things look up a bit . here. There is a much more businesslike appearance in the township than I noticed on a former visit two or three years, ago. , But there are bigger things to come. When the Golf L,inks Scheme is carried out, and there seems good reason to think it will be in the near future, Blackheath will be the rendezvous of very many of 'the fascinated.' And good luck to them all ! They will have a lovely situation for their game, and the man}' ardent sportsmen up this way are quite up to making the links attractive. Golf has come to stay, and ...
