Three platforms have been published within the last month, namely, those of the National Democratic Council, the Political Federation of SoldSftrs and Citizens, and the Northern; Na tional Political Union, while the objects of the Primary Producers have been outlined. Each * of these platforms, if put into effect, would make of Queensland a country like, unto the Promised Land, so that on paper it doesn't seem to matter much which party holds tiie reins, except that on this line of reasoning the Labour Party rule- should have resulted in less of a howling fiasco than it has, because there is much that is good in their platform. . From this it would appear as if platforms count for considerably less than honesty of purpose, and the people would be well advised to examine the various parties, in order to ascertain how each stands in regard to that elusive quality before making any of them favorite in the next race for power. . Principle for Settlement of New Guinea. [Newspaper Article] — The Leader — 1 October 1919

Principle for Settlement of New Guinea. The problem of the settlement of late Ger man New Guinea is one which will exercise the minds* of. the Federal Cabinet during the pre \ sent year. It is important to Australia that the method of ' settlement should be of such a nature that not only the future of the Islands shall be established upon a firm economic basis, but also that Australia's safety shall not be jeopardised by any laxity in choice of the character of settlement. The world is becoming thickly populated and it is essential that every portion not yet ex ploited, but yet worthy of exploitation should be given every chance to allow of its produc ivity being of benefit to the whole of humanity. The ramifications of trade have become world wide in extent and a demand is being made upon every nation to deliver for world use the products of its possessions. It is impossible to escape this demand, and any nation which fails to respond must give account of the reason for Its failure...

THE OLD FOLKS O'ER AND O'ER. The couple were married and travelled to the lakes, for their honeymoon. As soon as they arrived they had a meal and then took a boat out upon the lakes. . The following morning the bride's mother re ceived a post card which read: 'Arrived safely. Grand row before bed.' , She read it and sighed. 'I didn't think they'd quarrel so soon.'
