A FREAK OF LIGHTNING. [Newspaper Article] — Adelong Argus, Tumut and Gundagai Advertiser — 19 February 1925

A FREAK OF LIGHTNING. On Tuesday last a violent thunder storm passed over Borenore, and in the height of . the disturbance the light ning struck Mr. . W. Caldwell's house. The point of impact was the dining room chimney, the whole of which, from the top ^ to where it emerges from the. roof, wab shattered to fragments, ; portiono of the bricks and cement be ing scattered to the four winds of heaven. The iron of the roof was per forated iu several places where pieces of brick struck it. The current went down the jchimney, and inside the dining-room the grate was blown out into the room ; the .tiles of the grate were shattered to pieces and strewn over the room. The mantlepiece was torn aside, and the glass vases and photo frames were thrown to the floor, but,' strange to say, no glassware was' broken, the explanation of this being that the room was filled with com pressed air from the concussion, whiel acted as an air-cushion, and steadied the glass to the floor. .After striking the c...
