CRICKET. WARRAGUL V. BULN BULN. [Newspaper Article] — Warragul Guardian and Buln Buln and Narracan Shire Advocate — 25 November 1880

CR. CIET. WARItAGUL V. BULN BULX. The Wairagul Cricket Club plaed ifs maiden match against a team called the Bumn Buln Club, but which may be said tob be comprised of players from Buln Buln and Drouinr, on their own ground on Saturday last. W11arrAgul having won the. toss went first to the wickets, and were quickly disposed of fr 32 runs, of which Ditterich con tributed 11. The Buln Buln team then took their stand, aind when the last man was out the score stood at 1.9. Warraul once. more faced the bowlers, but made a better stand, and succeeded in putting 50 runs together. This left Bulmi Buln 31. runs to get to win. This number they did not sue ceed in scoring, the last wicket falling for 3:. The scoring being equal on both sides, a tie was the result, which may be said to be very .atisfactory as far as Warragul is concerned, seeing how. that, in the first place, the club has only beln in existence :a couple of months, and that no proper courseeof practice has been adopted; and see...

DR. SELTZER'S TEMPERANCE ORATION. [Newspaper Article] — Warragul Guardian and Buln Buln and Narracan Shire Advocate — 2 December 1880

DRI. SELTZER'S TEMPERANCE ORATIONN My Dear FIriiends-In much pertur bation, in high-wroughbt vexation, in grief anld desperation, and great tribu lation, I will give you in or0tion-a glorious oration-on the deplorable cffects of brandy, porter, ale, and bitter beerifieation. Oh yes, dear friends, for after much considcration, quick penetration, and acutcediscrimi natilon, I perceive with consternation that crime and starvation, and every other abomination that disgraces rank and station, are entailed oil many a habitation by that gigantic evil of our day, brandy, porter, ale, and bitter beerification. How many a noble re putation, that adorns our fair creation, commanding our admiration, and our warmest approbation, sinks from its height of exaltation into the very depths of degradation? How many a poor relation, possessed of a first-rate education, but alas! of vicious incli nation, becomes habituated to thie deep potation ; and unable to withstand temptation, hle snaps his fingers...

THE MOE TRACK. (BY OUR SPECIAL REPORTER.) At the irequest of a number of peo ple who have often to travel between Melbourno and WValhalla, and some of the selectors who are endeavoring to make homes for themselves at i1oon dama (as ,tho strip of settled country at tho foot of Mounmt Law liw is called), I visited the road between Moo and Coopor's Creek (hcttei known as the Moc Trtek) last week, for the purpose of seeing for myself how much of truth and how much ofi exasggeration there was in the, dread ful'stories Iliad heard about this ass ful track. Though favored by Jack, who undor.atond the pirpose of my visit, with the box seat, which all tra vellers know to be au-almost inesti mable advanutage on a bad road, I can assure my readers that long before wi reached the Tvers River I felt satisfied that, so far from the terrors of thi road hlaving been over painted, they had been under estimated in all. tle accounts I had heard. BARBARA. [Newspaper Article] — Warragul Guardian and Buln Buln and Narracan Shire Advocate — 9 December 1880

BARBARA. "Was thereanysi'maii, Eben!" SAnd leaning over the little wicket gate, dark locks falling about her in pretty, care 'less' tresses, Barbaia. looked ivstfully dowsi 'the'shady street and then up at the tossing elms, where the busy birds were chattering. And, sad to relate, a frown of discontent crept over Barbara's white brow. "No, there were no letters for the Leigh tons," said Eben in a savage mood. "I made special inquiries for you," and Eben's lower lip trembled a little, and his voice softened wonderfully for him. "I suppose you are anxious to get away front the old place, Miss Barbara?" "Yes, I am," said flias Leighton sharply, with an imperial air. "I am sick of it all. Ishould be glad to go anywhere from here.' Eben made no reply.. He looked down at the tangled curls, the soft, wistful brown .eyes, the dimpled hands clasped over the mesh of honeysuckles -then away over the tops of the snowy balsamsn toward the great world where Barbara's heart was. NARRACAN. [Newspaper Article] — Warragul Guardian and Buln Buln and Narracan Shire Advocate — 9 December 1880

NIIRACUAN. (FPRO OUR OWN OCLRESPONDENT.) A league, having for its object the carrying of the line of the proposed railway to Mirboo along the valley of the N arracan Creek, was started here about three months ago, when a depu tation was sent to the Minister of Railways asking that, before the route was decided on, an inspection of the Narracarn Valley should be made by an engineer, and the request was so reasonable that Mr. Patterson at once promised compliance. Before, how ever, the inspection could be made, some influential'person or persons in terested in Trafalgar made represen tations in favor of starting the line from that station; while the 3Morwell people made a stir to get the line started from their station. Mr. Pat terson, thus finding himself pestered from all sides, sent an engineer on a flying visit of inspection. That gen tleman visited Trafalgar, came on to Karracan, crossed the Narracan Creek on his return by way of Woode' Track; and gave in a report condemnatory of...
